CONGRATULATIONS JOHN WEBB
All of us here at Industrial Personnel would like to congratulate John Webb (known to the team as Webbo) on being appointed as a Director! We hope that everyone will join us in congratulating him, and wishing him all the best for the future.
We sat down with John to ask him a few questions on how he came to get here:
IP: Hi John, congratulations on being appointed as a Director of Industrial Personnel!
J: Thank you! I’ve always aspired to be one of the Directors of the business.
IP: So, how did you first get into the recruitment business?
J: Like most people, I just landed here! My first ‘proper’ job was a Royal Engineer in the British Army. I left in 1996 not really knowing what I wanted to do. I had no formal qualifications, but I did possess good people skills, so I applied as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant and haven’t looked back!
IP: When did you first join Industrial Personnel?
J: I started at Industrial Personnel in February 2003 as Divisional Manager. I predominately managed the Industrial Division. That said, over the years I have been responsible for other areas of the business.
IP: You left IP in 2012 to become a Barrister, isn’t that right?
J: Yes, it had been a lifelong ambition to study for formal qualifications. Like many people, I didn’t place the importance that I should have on education when I was younger. I always knew I had the ability to achieve a high standard of education, so I enrolled on a 4-year part-time law degree course. I worked at Industrial Personnel during this time and they were extremely supportive. I graduated with a 2:1 and then studied on the 2 year BPTC course to qualify as a Barrister. I was finally called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2012. I then started working for an outsourced HR and employment law company, where I specialised in representing in the Employment Tribunal. I practised law for two and a half years.
IP: Why did you choose to specialise in Employment Law?
J: I felt that I already had a good understanding of employment law prior to my formal training. My recruitment background gave me the understanding of many of the working practices of companies, and I was able to give good commercial advice based on my many years of industry relevant experience.
IP: You then came back to Industrial Personnel?
J: Yes, I came back in October 2014 as Operations Manager and now here we are today!
IP: What are your plans as a newly appointed Director?
J: Working together with our team, I hope to keep building our brand to the best it can be, and implement Industrial Personnel’s core values in everything we do. I also want IP to continue to dominate the recruitment market in South Yorkshire and hopefully further afield in the near future.
IP: That’s great! Thank you for sitting down with us John, and congratulations again on your new role.
