WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HIRING GRADUATES?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HIRING GRADUATES?

There can be many benefits for you and your company if you are to hire a graduate employee.

The graduate you hire can be moulded into the exact employee that you want and need them to be. Since graduates are fresh out of university, and have just left a continuous learning environment, they are generally very fast learners and able to pick up new things quickly. This may also mean that they have a different sense of perspective, or ideas regarding how you go about some tasks. Also, a lot of graduates are new to the working world, and are keen to impress and please their bosses.

Having the title of graduate, proves that they are committed and can stick to a task, as a university course is a three or four-year commitment. Being a graduate also proves that they have the mental ability to work and develop in a continuous learning environment.

It is common for graduates to have taken part in an industrial placement year throughout their time at university. This means that they will have had some experience of the working world and will know what to expect, and what is to be expected of them. They also may have taken some time to travel, and the life experiences, skills and qualities that can be learnt from exploring other places and cultures can be invaluable.

With millennials having grown up at the forefront of technology development, graduates are entering jobs with the expectation that they will be using technology, so will be keen to learn your company’s applications quickly.

Finally, another big positive attributed to hiring graduates, is the return on investment that you will get. Research carried out by the AGR (Association of Graduate Recruiters) found that “graduates contribute approximately £1 billion of added value to the UK economy on an annual basis.” (Graduate Recruitment Bureau). Even though graduates may cost a little more than undergraduates, their contribution to the company’s profit is considerably larger.

  1. Hi there IP Exec,

Thanks for posting this 🙂 I just commented on the version of this article on Industrial Personnel and thought I would say the same here.

I see you have quoted Graduate Recruitment Bureau (GRB) in your article, and I happen to work in their marketing department. I think your readers would benefit from the further reading provided by linking to the page that you quoted.

The page you refer to is here: https://www.grb.uk.com/recruiter-research/7-benefits-of-hiring-graduates.

I look forward to hearing from you

    Best wishes,
